As a Neuroscience graduate and current Children's Nursing student, I always loved learning, and I started tutoring to relay my love for science and learning to others, and allow them to find enjoyment in the process.
My tutoring approach is consistently individualised, adaptable and student focused. I take the time to understand each student's learning style and academic goals, offering guidance and support, even when they are unsure about what they need help with. I prioritise building a solid foundation by breaking down complex ideas into clear and manageable concepts that can be applied.
While every student benefits from different strategies, my sessions are always interactive and engaging- whether we're revising content or working through practice questions. With that, I always encourage questions and curiosity throughout the session. I found this develops deeper understanding and highlights real world applications of the subject. My students often find this approach enjoyable and empowering.
In terms of methodology, I guide students through exam questions and teach content step by step, which many students find extremely useful. I also share useful resources, summarise key concepts and tailor support based on subject, curriculum and goals. Moreover, if a student shows particular interest in a topic, I am happy to set extension work to encourage independent exploration, to give their learning meaning.
A core part of my educational philosophy is shaped by my own past struggles with academic confidence, which allows me to deeply empathise with students and support them in building their own self confidence. I aim to equip them with the mindset and tools to take ownership of their learning, not just in our sessions but throughout their academic journey!
